The Lantern Sessions

The Lantern Sessions are the consort's film series: whole sets played by candle-lantern in rooms built before equal temperament, filmed with one camera and no retakes. The room's echo stays in; so do the mistakes worth keeping.

Vol. I — five sets from the Bristol undercroft, including the first recording of Hedge Music — is on Bellfounder and on the videos page. Vol. II films at the Tallow Hall this winter, at the Candlemas concert.

Presenters

A Lantern Session needs a room that can be made dark, a floor that can take candle stands, and an audience willing to sit inside the filming. The technical rider below has the detail; the honest requirement is a building older than the repertoire.
